The weight of the javelin felt perfect in David’s hand. He was at the peak of his form. The sun blazed down, warming his skin as he went through his pre-throw routine, his muscles loose and ready. He felt the pure energy of anticipation running through his veins. Coach Thompson clapped him on the shoulder, a rare gesture of encouragement. “David, we're thinking of having you try throwing the discus.”

David's eyebrows rose a fraction of an inch, but his expression remained serene. He had the feeling, for the first time in a while, that he could do anything. "Alright, Coach," he answered calmly, his gaze sweeping the field. "Let's give it a shot."
